Today, I’m switching gears and genres with my next special guest. Her sweet (and fantastic) romance, The Accidental Cowgirl, is being released by Random House Loveswept on October 8th and I’m thrilled to have her with us today. Please welcome Maggie McGinnis!
Okay, Maggie, if your book were an ice cream flavor, what flavor would it be?
Oh, yum. I think I’d have to go with a scoop of Montana huckleberry on a piece of Boston cream pie.
Sounds delicious! What is your biggest fear?
Honestly? The evening news.
LOL! That’s a new kind of answer! Now tell me, if you weren’t a writer, what would you do to bring home the bacon?
Well, the NASCAR thing didn’t quite work out after Danica scooped my sponsors, and I turned out to be too squeamish for med school, so I guess I’d have to fall back on my education degree (no freshman-year dissection required). I’m a writing teacher at heart, and there’s nothing more rewarding than helping others learn to do something they’ve always wanted to master, and to watch them build lifelong relationships in the process. It doesn’t bring home much bacon, but it’s the super-premium really tasty kind. 🙂
Very honorable. (But sorry you missed out on that NASCAR gig!) I’m curious since you’re so busy writing, have you had any time for any great books lately?
Not long ago, a friend recommended Child 44, by Tom Rob Smith. I’m not sure it’s a book I would have found on my own, as it’s outside my normal escapist-reading genres, but wowza. I’m still haunted by the terror and beauty of it.
When I’m not scaring the doodles out of myself, I always have Kristan Higgins, Shannon Stacey, Jill Shalvis, and you on my nightstand!
Aw, thanks! I love those gals, too! But, back to your book. What is your favorite scene?
Oh, gosh. I’m kind of partial to a lot of them. 🙂 I think my favorite Kyla and Decker scene is the first time they dance. Swoon! My fave besties scene is when Jess and Hayley give Kyla a special gift before they head into town one night, and I have to say, I pretty much love anytime Ma shows up on the page. 🙂
And, I always end on a serious note. . . is your hero a boxers, briefs, or commando kinda guy?
Only Kyla knows for sure, and she’s not talkin’. 🙂
Well, darn it! In that case, will you at least tell us more about the book and where we can find it?
Kyla Bennett needs a vacation. Her ex-fiance imagined himself the next Bernie Madoff, minus the orange jumpsuit. Unfortunately, his lies caught up with him, along with the FBI. Kyla and her grandparents were shocked to find their accounts emptied, but Kyla was even more appalled to find out the lying skunk was already married. A terrible car accident in the aftermath of his betrayal left her with a crushed femur and raging case of post-traumatic stress, and a year after the crash, her best friends Hayley and Jess decide to pack her off for a two-week trip to a dude ranch. It’d be a great surprise, except for Kyla’s deathly fear of horses.
Decker Driscoll grew up on a thriving Montana ranch, but left for L.A. without a backward glance ten years ago. If his father hadn’t put the ranch up for collateral a week before he drove into a tree, Decker’d still be in L.A. Instead, he’s promised his mom and brother that he’ll help out for the summer, even though Ma’s turned the ranch into a damn tourist haven in order to fend off the bank. But now that he’s back, it’s harder and harder to imagine leaving the land he loves.
When Kyla arrives at the ranch with her Louis Vuitton luggage and kitten heels, Decker’s convinced she’s a typical tourist. He’s not looking to be anybody’s fantasy cowboy—hell, he doesn’t even belong here anymore— but finds himself inexorably drawn to this city girl who can make chocolate-chip cookies on a campfire. She, on the other hand, is so good-n-burned that she’s pretty sure she’ll never trust her own radar again.
ACCIDENTAL COWGIRL is the first in the Whisper Creek series, and will be released October 8, 2013 by Random House Loveswept®! Look for Jess and Hayley’s stories next!

Thank you for being here, Maggie! It was so fun! Now, two lucky folks will win a copy of The Accidental Cowgirl, so be sure and leave a comment and check back next week to see if you’ve won! Good luck!
Maggie started writing when her twins were infants and she was desperately seeking sanity. The fact that she found it only with imaginary people makes her a bit concerned, but at least they do what she tells them to … usually.
She lives in New England, though she spends an inordinate amount of time on Arizona real estate sites in mid-January. While snow piles up to her windowsills, she cyber-stalks the blue skies and pink houses of the Southwest. It’s cheaper than therapy …
She used to be an English teacher, a certified black belt, and a cool-car driver. Then … twins. Now she swills caffeine while driving the one vehicle she swore she’d never own: a minivan. It sort of hurts even to admit it.
Her debut novel, a cozy mystery, was a Golden Heart® finalist, and her debut romance, Accidental Cowgirl, will be published in October of 2013 by Random House Loveswept!
